Sticky Honey Garlic Sweet Potatoes

Hi, my name is Erika. A few years ago, in the heart of London, in a small side street near Soho, I found a tiny, warm Asian restaurant. That’s where I first tasted this special sticky honey garlic sweet potato, served with roasted tofu.

The flavor stayed with me — sweet, slightly smoky, deep, yet light at the same time.

I started talking to the chef, and eventually he shared something unexpected. He told me that at home, he makes it completely differently.

“It’s not about the ingredients… it’s about how you let it happen.”

And this is exactly what I’m sharing with you now.

I asked her what made it so special.
She smiled and said:
“It’s not just what you add… it’s how everything lives together.”

And then, almost like a secret, she showed me the one small detail that changes everything…
A tiny piece of dark chocolate.
A touch of smoky spice.
Not enough to notice.
Just enough to feel.
And that’s exactly what I’m sharing with you now.

How to Make Sticky Honey Garlic Sweet Potatoes

Prepatation: Preheat your oven to 200°C. Wash the sweet potatoes and cut them into evenly sized cubes. Place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and roast for 30–35 minutes, until the edges start to caramelize and multiple sides become slightly crispy. This way they cook faster and develop more caramelized surface.

The Secret Step (this is the key):

In a pan over low heat, combine the honey, soy sauce, sake, and chopped garlic.

Don’t rush it.

Let the flavors slowly come together.

This isn’t just a sauce… it’s a  process.

• Caramelizing:

Add the roasted sweet potato cubes into the pan and gently toss them over low heat for a few minutes.

Not just a quick toss…

let the glaze slowly caramelize around them.

Freshly diced sweet potato cubes spread evenly on a baking sheet for roasting.
