01/07: The Greek Secret: Cinnamon Roasted Sweet Potato
A little piece of Crete in my kitchen
Hi! My name is Erika. If you asked my family about me, they’d probably say I’m the one obsessed with sweet potatoes and the self-appointed curator of our family flavors.
Today, I’m sharing a secret that’s been cherished in Greece for centuries. I first stumbled upon this specialty years ago while traveling through Crete, and it has stayed close to my heart (and our dinner table) ever since. There’s a certain warmth in this recipe that makes every meal feel like a special occasion.
This recipe officially kicks off my Sweet Potato Week! I’m so excited to have you join me on this journey. As a little thank you for being here, I’ve prepared some gifts for you:
• On Day 7: I’ll be releasing an exclusive, free-to-download Sweet Potato Planner.
• And after that: I’m gifting you a 31-day Beach Body Planner in PDF format to help us stay on track with our lifestyle goals together.
I truly recommend giving this a try—it’s one of those dishes that doesn’t just fill you up, but actually makes your soul feel good.
• The Marinade (Expert Tip): In a bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, olive oil, sea salt, peppers and cinnamon. Thoroughly coat the halved potatoes in this mixture. If you have the time, let them rest in this marinade for an hour; it allows the spice to truly penetrate the roots.
• Roasting: Place the potatoes on a baking tray with the cut side facing down. Roast for 35 to 45 minutes on low heat until they are golden and caramelized. The glaze will naturally pool at the base, creating a crisp, candy-like coating that makes the exterior incredible. The fusion of cinnamon and caramelized maple syrup is truly exceptional.
Crown your roasted potatoes with a generous amount of crumbled Feta, a dollop of Greek yogurt, and a handful of pomegranate seeds. This is the way I prepare them, and it is exactly how my family loves them.
